Chapter 19 of 30 · 1 min read

Overnight Camp Illness Response and Health-Space Capacity

Plan how the camp will seek public-health advice and support people when several become ill. Check care staffing, suitable space, family contact and transport. Keep group care working while following current directions for the situation.

Several people becoming ill is an operating problem, not only a series of individual problems. Have a plan for contacting public health and following current directions.

Record symptoms and timing through the health team without guessing at a diagnosis. Look for patterns and escalate promptly. Keep required records secure.

An ill participant may need a separate care space, but not abandonment. Decide who supervises, how food and toilets work, how privacy is protected, and how the rest of the group remains covered.

Prepare extra cleaning and laundry arrangements approved for the situation. Follow product labels and qualified instructions. Do not mix chemicals or invent a stronger cleaning recipe.

Tell families what is known and what action is being taken. Do not promise that no one else will become ill. Avoid naming affected children in group messages.

Define when activities, admissions, or the whole session may need to stop under the relevant health advice. Plan safe collection and communication for a closure. Keep enough cash and transport options to carry out the decision.

Your task: Run a tabletop exercise for several sick participants at night while the next session is due to arrive soon.
