The main idea

Tell people what to expect before they arrive. Let them join in at their own pace.

Part 1

New campers may feel excited and shy at the same time. Tell them where to go, who will meet them, and where to put their things.

A clear plan can help more than a big welcome speech.

Part 2

Start with a chat in pairs or a simple task. Let people watch for a while if they want to. Do not make everyone speak in front of the whole group.

Adults who come alone should get the same warm welcome as people who bring friends.

Part 3

Give campers a private way to ask for help before camp. Say who will read their message.

Check with your team before promising a change to the plan or extra support.

Part 4

Ask what was easy and what was hard to follow. Make time for questions.
