Find and prepare your coaches

Players need adults who can explain a skill, notice who needs help and make the game welcoming. Coaching experience is only one part of the role.

Make your plan

  1. Give each coach a clear role and group. Check the training, screening and supervision rules that apply to your sport, ages and location.

  2. Agree who handles arrivals, breaks, first aid, family messages and late pickup. Arrange cover when someone is away from the group.

  3. Practise a session together. Show how to adapt a drill, include a nervous beginner and respond when players fall out.

Picture it

A simple example

Before the first day, run a short passing game with the coaches. Ask one person to act as a new player and another to need a simpler version. Talk through what each coach would change.

Your next step

Put your choices into a plan you can change and share with your team.
